Description:

Designed using CLIMASHIELD™ APEX synthetic insulation, The Revelation APEX, known previously as the Prodigy, is a high value quilt that combines great all weather performance and versatility in a low-cost package. The partially zippered/drawcord footbox allows the quilt to be used fully or partially open to vent excess heat, or to cinch down tight to conserve every last bit of warmth. The Climashield Apex insulation continues to effectively insulate even when wet, which is great for hikers and paddlers who need high versatility and all weather performance on a budget. This is also the ideal quilt for summer use, as the insulation isn't as negatively affected by sweat and oils from extra warm nights.

Included:

  • Silnylon Stuff Sack (.3oz-.8oz)

  • Nylon storage bag

  • Elastic Straps x2 (0.4oz each - One Straight, One Loop)

Synthetic material weights may vary +/- 5% due to production variances.

Small travel companion (50F Slim Regular)

I wanted the smallest and lightest travel companion without sewn through seams, that's why I've ordered 50F Slim Regular. I'm 5'9" 132 lbs, and I can wrap in this quilt easily. It's perfect for my hammock, and if I'm ground camping, the elastic strap comes handy to help with tossing around. Previous to that I had HammockGear Burrow 50F down quilt, which had sewn through seams and I had to make sure that down is distributed properly. This one doesn't have such problems, and it's also cheaper! I don't think that 50F model needs zipper instead of snaps, but that's totally fine. I with you have warmer models with the sewn foot box and full-length zipper like ZPacks. :-)

Revelation Apex works when a down quilt fails

I have the Revelation Apex 20F in 6' length, 54" width (about 2.2 lbs). I'm 5'10", 175 lbs and can wear belay parka/pants and down mukluks inside. With less clothing, the slim width would have been sufficient. This is a bulky quilt by UL standards, at least 800 cu in without over-compressing, so be prepared for that. Early and late winter in my region, temperatures can climb just above freezing, with hosing rain and fog, then drop to single digits with heavy ice and snow, repeatedly over a single trip. With a downmat, enclosed shelter and the above clothing I've been consistently comfortable below 10F. My down quilt (lighter, less bulky, but over twice the cost -- from another maker) has been soaked flat by the dampness in the air, which is enough to form fog inside my tent. I've shortened or bailed out of a few Nov-Dec and March-April trips because of it. Climashield Apex has been the ticket to keep me hiking in that transitional weather. Damp clothing tends to dry a bit overnight; the moisture condenses in the quilt and can be air dried during the day when necessary. Less attention is required overall for the whole system to work, and unexpected conditions are more easily managed. The moderate weight/bulk penalty should be a worthwhile trade for most of my cold weather trips. Great value for the money. I've already ordered a 40F model.
