Meet the EE Team: Interview with Jacob

Jacob, Tell us some things that every person should know about you?

I have an intense passion for the outdoors, my wife, my bike, and my beard.

What are some of your favorite outdoor activities?

If I had to pick a couple favorites, I’d have to say they’d have to be fishing in the summer, backpacking in the fall, fat biking in the winter, and being able to switch back to skinny tires and singletrack in the spring.

How’d you get into hiking and the outdoors?

It goes back to my childhood family vacations. As a kid we seldom did the stereotypical amusement park family vacations, but we’d retreat up north into the Porcupine Mountains. However, my passion for the outdoors really came alive in my early 20s while living in the Pacific Northwest.

What’s the best outdoor trip you have ever gone on?

I’ve been fortunate enough to go on many great trips, but my fondest memory would be when I turned moving back to the Midwest from Washington into an adventure. I had a few weeks before I started my new job in Wisconsin, so I took the opportunity to solo camp my way back. I had the opportunity to do everything from camping in an apple orchard at the base of Mount Spokane, to hiking in the Tetons, to getting lost in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

What’s the worst?

I’m a pretty positive guy, so it’s difficult for me to pick a “worst”. However, if there is one thing that can get my down in a hurry, it’s planning a big fishing trip only to get there and find that the fish planned their vacation to be at the same time you did.

Where would you love to visit?

My wife and I are planning a trip out to the Pacific Northwest this fall. We’ve both spent time out there individually, so we’re looking forward to sharing the experience together.

What’s one piece of gear you always need?

From a practical standpoint: My Enlightened Equipment Revelation, of course! From a sentimental standpoint: My titanium spork (a gift from my sister).

What would you never be caught with in your pack?

Anything cotton.

What is your favorite meal while out on the trail?

Picante Chicken Ramen Noodles and a Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bar.

Why do you love customer service?

I’m a very extroverted person, so I really enjoy interacting with fellow outdoor enthusiasts, especially when I get to hear about their past, present, and future adventures.
